The Observing Field (Activity Field) is a mowed grass field divided by roads into neighborhoods. There are Telescope Only, RV only and multi-use neighborhoods. Camping is permitted in the multi-use neighborhoods and in the woods around the activity field.

The roads are marked by a centerline painted on the grass. The neighborhoods begin 10 feet off each centerline. This provides 20 feet of road width. After dark when vehicle traffic on the Observing stops many attendees move their telescopes into the roads . This permits a higher density of campers and more room around each telescope. As a courtesy a path down each centerline is left open as even on very dark nights the centerlines are visible to dark adapted eyes.
