The Final Hubble Upgrade

-- awesome! i might drop by. finals are coming up. might as well bring along the physics book. i wish i could drop by before thanksgiving holidays, but lsu is only giving us half of wednesday until the next monday off. or actually, i can visit after finals. my last final is around the second week of december. when i'll drop by is a surprise. maybe i'll sit in on a class for old time's sake. haha. Cxkham 04:19, November 12, 2009 (UTC)

haha.

some of your physics students are freaking out about the worksheet you give on the first day.

it's a bit funny, but we were all the same way in the beginning.

just saying, you make us grow a lot in the way we think. physics was very intimidating to me, but after i got the hang of the basics, i felt like i could handle anything. the simple rule was to just THINK! i was so used to having information given to me and i just spit it back out, but with physics i had to actually use my brain and think. haha.

looking at how much i've grown in your class...i'd just like to say you're awesome. although i may not remember what the index of refraction for air is, i still remember how to use my brain. :D

Cxkham 03:15, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

haha Carrie i thought i was the only one that still got on here. i COMPLETELY agree with you. once you get a hang on the basics (and learn to stay awake) you'll be fine. you just gotta try not to stress over it. but thanks mr leeson, i feel like your one of the few teachers that actually prepared me for college.

--Kript2 01:30, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

YELLO. Just checking in. Physics right now isn't bad. It's basically the same thing you taught me...but...quicker...or I feel like it's quicker. We're doing vectors right now. I hate vectors. They always mess me up. I know I could email you, but I kind of don't feel like it since I'm already logged in to wikia.

By the way, you teach physical science now?

Where is the "List of Participants" for me to add my name in "alphabetical order?"--TuanTran 21:13, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

That sounds like a good idea, spreading out the history and all. I think that will work out way better and it will also let them see how one thing had to come before the other for something else to happen. I think it will work out good. When are you going to start the night labs? I want to go to one! --Kript2 01:27, September 15, 2009 (UTC)

Project LIfe Form Projects's

Im really enjoying this project. I think the ISS is very interesting. Thanks for letting me pick a different topic. --Kript2 02:41, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

Admin

Welcome, and it's great to see what you are doing with the wiki! I've given you admin access, which will allow you to delete and protect pages etc. I also gave access to Kirk, so that he can help you if you need it. I'm also around to help, and the rest of the Community Team. By the way, these "talk" pages are the usual place to leave messages, rather than the "user page"... these are the ones that trigger the notice that you have new messages. Have fun! -- sannse@fandom (talk) 22:19, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

There is a brief guide to what you can do now at Wikia:Help:Administrators' how-to guide, basically it just gives you a few more tools. Possibly you won't need them at all :) but you certainly deserve them, you are doing good work here -- sannse@fandom (talk) 23:23, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks!

Thank you, you've done an excellent job of following up. I'm excited about the work you and your students are doing here; please don't hesitate to ask for help if you have any questions, curiosities, or concerns.

By the way, here is a great site for public domain (copyright free) space photos that can be uploaded to this wiki: http://www.spacetelescope.org/images/index.html -- see Wikia:Help:Images if you need more information on using images.

Good luck! — Catherine@fandom (talk) 07:59, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

Amateur Astronomy

Thank you,

I am going to create a link from your main page to one called Amateur Astronomy. I shouldn't affect anything that you guys are doing, at least not on purpose. Once I am set up, I probably will move the star party information off you main page if that is OK with you.

I am not an astronomer, but I am very excited about the work you and your class are doing. This generation of kids are going to make awesome scientists! --Starseeker 19:17, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

Astronomy Main and things

I made some major changes to the Astronomy Main page today. I don't think I did anything that you would object too, but if I did, just change it to your liking.

I've read some of the material your students are producing and a lot of it is wonderful. Some of them I want to engage, because their subjects are so much more interesting than what they have shown so far. I hesitate because it is so easy to misunderstand a written comment, especially with young egos. My wife is a HS astronomy teacher and I have met many of her students at class star parties. I want the interactions to be positive for them. Any thoughts on how you would like to see interactions happen with people outside of your classes?

New formatting option

We've just gotten a new extension that might make life a little easier on your students. It is called the Poem extension, and you can learn more about it at http://help.wikia.com/wiki/Help:Poem. It isn't perfect, as it still kind of mucks with indentation. But at least it allows for it. I figured that you might want to check it out. --Kirk 20:30, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

I dont understand what you mean. --Kript2 23:57, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

Oh, that. it droped something off to the ISS. im not sure what it dropped off but I was reading something about it last night. Yes, I know thoses are just models. I found a really GREAT sight that was explaining about the parts and different things each country added to it. so I put the pictures up. This was at like 2 this morning so I was just reading, I didnt rewrite anything I read yet and I didnt want to plagerize. But this topic is ALOT more interesting than I thought it would be. I like how the countries kind of put the "space race" on pause to come together to work on this huge project. --Kript2 01:00, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

When I was reading last night, I had read about Columbus and Freedom but I haven't seen Kibo yet. I'll keep looking for it. I was planning on kind of doing a side topic about each country and there involvement with it. I guess I can do Columbus, Freedom adn Kibo too. --Kript2 01:56, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

Zamzar

For videos, go to www.zamzar.com. Copy the URL from the Youtube site. Click on the "Download Videos" tab on the home screen of zamzar. Paste the URL in the first box. Choose the wmv file type. Put in your email address and click convert. When it is finished (it sometimes takes a while), it will email you. When you get the email, you have to download the file.

  • If you do not download the file within a day of receipt of the email, it will erase the file and you will have to start over.

Then, you can save it to a flash drive or whatever and show it in windows media player at school.

I put up my outline. But im not sure if that's how you want it. Can you look at it and tell me if I need to fix it? --Kript2 16:16, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

I read your sugesstion. I like it. Thats pretty much what I wanted to say but it somes it up so that works for me. Its fine if you have them look at mine as example. I didnt think I was doing it right though. --Kript2 01:51, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

Presentation

Let me just get it straight. You want a presentation on how you would determine how high a rocket would go A) given the time (like on the test) and B)given the angle. With the angle, there must be a velocity correct? I'm doing a powerpoint. It's very basic, but I'll do an example on the board. Tiffany =) 21:56, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

It's ok, you didn't stress me. I just wanted to make sure I did what was asked of me correctly. I didn't want to confuse anyone else the way I confuse myself sometimes haha. Tiffany =) 03:52, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

I think mine came out okay. I didn't realize until I finished last night that my nose is a little crooked. I hope it doesn't affect it too much. I guess we'll find out tomorrow! Remind me to tell you about the website I found yesterday. Tiffany =) 19:18, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

Rocket Worksheet

I'm so confused. For number 2 "Based on time in the air, how high did it go?" Am I supposed to cut my time in half then plug it into the equation? When I do this, my answer is off by almost 26m from my distance based on angle. Is this supposed to happen? --TuanTran 22:33, October 6, 2009 (UTC)

I'm using d= (-at^2)/8 I cut my t by half before plugging it in because i thought halfway was the amount of time it took to reach the very top. But my number is crazy low. When i don't cut it in half, it comes out okay.--TuanTran 00:42, October 7, 2009 (UTC)

is one of the equations supposed to be d= -1/2a(t/20^2? is it negative in front or positive? sorry if im bothering you --TuanTran 00:55, October 7, 2009 (UTC)

Hello

I sent you and email yesterday, but I started thinking and figured this might be a faster way to get in touch with you, haha. Um, I was wondering if you would mind if I went and observed your 3rd Block class tomorrow and then asked you a couple questions. Im writing a paper in English about high school teachers and I thought that you would be an excellent source to use. I know its homecoming so its kind of hectic, but I would GREATLY appriciate it. Ms. Roberts already knows about my paper and said its ok for me to go, so all I need is you approval.

PS--How class going?

HELLO!

Its been a long time since I heard from you! Just checking in to see how things have been. Hope everything is going good and you didn't lose your mind yet! haha. I seen someone has been assigned the project I started and it shocked me! I didnt expect that! I will most likely come pass by after final to check in, if you dont mind a visitor! Let me know when your off block is and I will try to come pass by then

Difficult file

Carahumankiler was uploaded by a user who is ten years old and doesn't understand that's not what an astronomy wiki needs. It's linked only to his userpage so may be OK. I know him from Speculative Evolution Wiki and it seems he lives in the Australian outback and gets his education by correspondence. I revert his less appropriate edits and correct grammar and spelling with his better edits. You can expect “War of the Worlds” type fiction about Martians but if you teach him astronomy he’ll be interested and learn. You’re a teacher, do you know websites that teach astronomy and evolution at his level? Proxima Centauri 11:55, December 28, 2009 (UTC)

Here is the link to the details: http://www.unitedbloodservices.org/herostory2.asp?state=la Anyway, I need recommendation letters from two faculty members who can explain what I did to help the blood drives at Westgate. To the best of my knowledge, I have helped at every blood drive in the last 4 years at Westgate. I'm not sure how many that number is though. I know that I worked the two in the 08-09 school year and I worked the one in the fall this year and plan to work the one that is about to come up. Can you guys help me out by writing a recommendation letter (one from each of you) for me? I don't care if you guys bs it or if it's super short. It would be cool if they were on the Westgate letterhead though (just a thought). Also, can you guys e-mail me the letters so that I can easily upload it to my online application? If not, no problem, I can mail it to them. If you can't write me one, please tell me so that I can find someone else to do it.I came to you guys first because yall are the stuco sponsors in charge of the blood drive. checking in

I sent you an email at the beginning of the school year but you haven't answered it, so I assume you didn't get it, unless you're IGNORING ME! haha. Anyway, college physics still sucks. I'm taking my last pure physics class before I start on the engineering ones like statics where I have to deal with static equilibrium and torques and fun stuff like that (unenthusiastic yay). I wanted to say hello. Hello! Cxkham 03:49, October 23, 2010 (UTC)

---

The physics I recently took mostly dealt with electric and magnetic fields and forces...and a little bit of energies of photons? I don't know we rushed through that part. Some concepts like finding voltage, resistance, currents was familiar to me especially the circuit diagrams. I did well in that. In other things it was just ridiculous. I don't think it was a lack of math knowledge, and high school did cover some that I learned. I think it's just a lack of not knowing how to tackle a problem. I was never good at word problems. For every test they give us a formula sheet that made test taking easier. I'd always make the mistake of not realizing that a certain equation can be used to get to the one I need to figure out and I'd just get stuck when I get the test. Miraculously I passed. Now I get to move on to statics and thermodynamics. Physics will just never go away. haha.

I like that your class got me out of the high-school-is-so-easy bubble. It was challenging and it definitely prepared me for college physics. I guess the only thing you can adjust with the way you've been teaching physics is to get students used to thinking differently by doing more problems, and get rid of the fear of being challenged. I think once students get used to the method of reading through the problem, identifying missing and given variables and what equations to use, and whether the answer they have is logical, they can solve any problem...or at least start them with confidence.

My trouble with word problems though..that is something I have to work on myself. In hindsight, I really don't know why physics had to be difficult. You'd think I'd be used to it by now after taking three physics classes.

Lunar eclipse is coming up. That would've made an awesome night lab.

Bureaucrat Rights

Have you suggested requesting for bureaucrat rights from the staff? There's no bureaucrat on the sight, and you can give users you trust rollbacking rights (the ability to revert edits without being admin or bureaucrat. No, I'm not suggesting you make me one.). It is definitely something to think about. --Thenewguy34 19:48, April 15, 2012 (UTC)
