Measuring Simple Harmonic Motion which pertains to measuring frequency by using the formula:

Frequency= harmonic number*(speed of waves on the string)/(2) (length of vibrating string)

Are you saying you will be bringing in a device so that you can make measurements and use the equations? What does Harmonic Number mean? How will you know the speed of waves on a string? If you're dealing with strings, look up "Law of Strings". It sounds like what you're doing, but may be simpler, and it involves 1) the amount of tension (force) on the string as well as 2) the length of the string. You could use an old guitar string (nylon is better than steel I think) and we can hang weights from a simple fret board.
